Former Inter owner and president Massimo Moratti has shared his views on the fact San Siro will be torn down as a result of Inter and AC Milan’s plans to build a new stadium.
“It is clear that there is a lot of affection for the stadium from the fans, so if you ask me if it is right to take it down, the immediate answer is No,” he said in an interview with gathered media at the Milano Calcio City event.
“The response is tied to the new projects and to the vision of the Milan of the future, and above all the interests of the club. I’m sorry but you can’t impede with being sorry.”
Moratti, who was at the helm of Inter for nearly 20 years, then discussed Inter’s start to the season.
“It has started well, they did much more than what was expected of them. In the league, not throwing away points at the beginning, can be very important.
“Conte is doing very well, he has a great liveliness about him. He puts everyone in a position to want to win and passes his desire on to the players, who are responding very well. He is an excellent coach.”
Next he spoke on Samir Handanovic, who made his 300th appearance for Inter against Lazio on Wednesday night.
“I think that Handanovic is a phenomenon and he showed that against Lazio. Maybe it is true what people have said that he should have been captain in the first place rather than Icardi.”
He was then asked whether he would prefer to beat Juventus or Barcelona.
“You want to win all your games. In every game you have to start with that principle and with Juventus it is mandatory to start with this idea. At the moment it seems like Inter is the anti-Juve.”
In conclusion he was asked if comparisons can be made between Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Romelu Lukaku.
“I don’t see the comparisons with Ibra, but the Belgian has qualities that allow Inter to play good.”
