Inter legend Luis Suarez has reflected upon how his move to the Nerazzurri in 1961 came about and the importance of Helenio Herrera in his career.

“Signing for Barcelona was a dream come true for me, it was wonderful! The previous year I was asking for autographs from the players and then I was playing with them,” he said in an interview with the official website of Barcelona.

“I played for Barcelona seven seasons and I had a great time. I had a great relationship with all the coaches and I saw the Camp Nou change. Suddenly, however, the Blaugrana fans started whistling: they saw a rivalry between me and Laszlo Kubala that really wasn’t there.

“My first coach at Barcelona, Helenio Herrera, took advantage of this situation and brought me to Inter. It was not easy to leave Barcelona, although in Italy they paid me much more. Herrera was decisive for my career, we won everything together. Even today in Milan the fans see me and remember the Grande Inter side.”
