Inter and AC Milan face a tough battle to convince the City of Milan to approve their projects for a new stadium, according to Rome based newspaper Corriere dello Sport.
The city council are already planning to postpone their response to the clubs’ plans, which was due on 10th October, after representatives from the Nerazzurri and Rossoneri failed to win councillors over during a series of meetings.
Instead of giving the proposals the green light, they are asking for an intervention from an external technical advisor, who they hope will come up with a suitable alternative plan.
Even if both clubs don’t want the postponement to last beyond 25th October, the maximum allowed by law is 30 days, which would set the deadline on Saturday 9th November.
The council would prefer to renovate the existing San Siro, pointing at the €200m cost quoted by a well-known architect at the request of previous Inter owner Erick Thohir.
They have asked to see Thohir’s discarded projects and would like to know why they were rejected at the time.
