Inter defender Alessandro Bastoni made his debut yesterday in the Nerazzurri’s 3-1 win over Sampdoria, with Milano based newspaper  Gazzetta dello Sport highlighting the player’s great performance.

The newspaper gave the player a ‘7’ rating following the match, noticing his confidence on the ball and good forward play, linking up well with the midfield. The player could potentially find himself in the starting eleven more as the season develops.

However, the three defenders in front of him make up one of the best backlines in Italy, with Bastoni having to impress coach Antonio Conte enough to start him over Diego Godin, Milan Skriniar or Stefan de Vrij, a mountain to climb for the 20-year-old.

On the other hand, due to Inter’s busy schedule between the title race against Juventus and Napoli in the league, their commitments in the Champions League and the Coppa Italia, Bastoni’s strong debut will surely make him the number one back-up in defence for Conte.
