Former Inter striker Diego Forlan has shared his expectations for Inter’s match away to Barcelona in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

“I expect a beautiful match between Barcelona and Inter. Inter strengthened well in the summer and their start in Serie A has been impressive. I’m curious to see how the games goes but with Barcelona at home you can’t bet against them,” he said in an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport.

Forlan, who spent just one season at Inter then spoke on compatriots Luis Suarez and Diego Godin, who will be coming up against one another in the match.

“Suarez is a real goalscorer, who create chances from nothing, even if sometimes it seems that he is not involved in the game. He can make a difference but he will have a very experienced and excellent defender in front of him in Godin. They are both leaders in the national team. Diego will also lead at Inter.

He was then asked whether he thinks Godin will do well in Italy.

«Obviously yes. He has already played many times in his career with the system he is now playing in He can do even better than when he was in Spain.”

Next he spoke on whether the Lukaku-Lautaro partnership or the Lukaku-Sanchez partnership is better.

“Regardless of the partnership, all the players are good. They are strong and have a great coach guiding them.

He then spoke on another of his compatriots in Matias Vecino, who has struggled to cement a starting berth under Conte.

“He has the talent to be a regular starter, but also has fierce competition in his role.”

Next he reflected on his time with the club.

“When I arrived the club wasn’t going through the best of times and I got injured like I had never before in my career. It was a real pity but I gave my best and I have excellent memories. I am still in touch with Zanetti, Cambiasso, Milito and sometimes with Samuel from that team.”
