Massimo Roj, the chief executive of Cmr, one of the firms in the race to build Inter and AC Milan’s proposed new stadium has revealed some further details relating to their project.
“Our concept represents a strategic starting point for the entire San Siro district in a perspective of careful and sustainable urban regeneration: currently the area suffers from a strong detachment with the rest of the urban fabric and the San Siro stadium.
“Our project has the primary objective of connecting this district and the city back together. We want to preserve the historical memory of a place that has defined not only the history of football but the identity of an entire city.
“That is why as part of our plans we want to keep the pitch of the current stadium and turn it into a large park accessible to all. Sport must be a driving force for inclusion and growth, in the total absence of barriers and obstacles and an fun and entertaining experience for all.”
He then went on to speak more specifically about the new stadium itself.
“The stadium will have a total of 60,000 seats, extendable to 63,000 or 65,000 based on needs. It will be possible to extend the number of seats which guarantees the necessary flexibility to host special events such as UEFA finals.”
“We are Italians and we are from Milan and as such being able to contribute to the new chapter of the clubs is a source of great pride. How will we do it? We wish to create a lively neighbourhood all year round, with an innovative, avant-garde stadium, but above all a stadium that is alive itself even when it is not in use. The stadium is for the future but will strongly remember the past.”
