Journalist Luigi Garlando has taken a look ahead to this weekend’s first Derby D’Italia of the season between Inter and Juventus as part of his latest column for Gazzetta dello Sport.

“Inter and Juve are two meteorites on a collision course. The Big Bang is set for Sunday at San Siro, 20.45. People must not allow themselves to be deceived by Inter’s defeat to Barcelona. The refereeing decisions made against them will only infuse further energy,” he wrote.

“Inter played on a par with Barcelona, who have now not lost at home for the last 33 Champions League matches and this has only added, not taken away, the confidence of the Serie A leaders who have full points.”

Garlando also discussed the importance of squad depth.

“It will be the collision between two teams launched, growing and increasingly characterised by their new managers. Sarri, who does not like turnover, is also digging a gap in Turin between increasingly recognisable starters and others but he knows he has powerful options for changing the match from the bench, above all: Paulo Dybala.

“Conte cannot do the same. He has just experienced what a strong bench can do to opposition after the Barcelona match. This fear has led to Conte asking the leaders to extend the squad, especially in midfield. For the time being, he will have to compensate with good ideas and sacrifice.”
