Ahead of this weekend’s Derby D’Italia between Inter and Juventus, Corriere dello Sport have recalled the two sides battle to sign Romelu Lukaku during the Summer transfer window, a battle which Inter were victors in.
“The transfer market tug of war between Inter, Juventus and Manchester United is one that nobody has forgotten. Juventus proposed an exchange with United involving Paulo Dybala but Juventus failed to meet the demands of the English club.
“Lukaku had promised himself to Inter and Antonio Conte in June which ensured that in the event of Inter and another club both agreeing deals with Manchester United, he would have pushed to go to Inter.
“The Belgian would have chosen Juventus only if Inter had pulled out permanently, but with Conte’s word in his pocket, he knew it would not happen.”
Since joining Inter in a club record transfer deal, Lukaku has scored three goals in his first seven appearances for the club.
