The Superintendent of Fine Arts of Milan sent his opinion to the City of Milan to ask them to consider alternatives to the demolition of the San Siro, such as the redevelopment. Milan Mayor Beppe Sala commented his thoughts via Italian media outlet ANSA.
“We must reflect on it because the opinion arrived last night and, in my opinion, also in a somewhat unexpected way. Personally, I had no hint of this statement, I say only one point of principle: it is really very difficult to imagine two structures, new and old, one next to the other. Of the two, it is another element of reflection and we will have to think about it in the next few days. The letter must also be interpreted a bit and we need to understand how we can work with respect to this type of constraint. We need to think about it, there is still a lot of scope.”
Sala, on the sidelines of the ‘onLife’ event promoted by la Repubblica, also discussed the possibility of an expert’s report on the project.
“I continue to argue that the teams must explain why in their opinion you cannot choose the path of renovations, I understand that they are working on it. Here the rule is always the same: that is, total transparency, so that if the citizens are convinced then it will become even easier for the project to move forward, but today it seems to me that the knowledge of the teams is that it’s impossible to renovate the San Siro. But it’s not knowledge that has been spread and explained to citizens.”
