Inter defender Diego Godin will meet perennial enemy Cristiano Ronaldo in tomorrow’s Derby d’Italia, with Turin based newspaper Tuttosport detailing the complicated history between the two players.

Godin faced the Portuguese star in multiple Madrid derbies in recent years, as well as meeting the five-time Ballon d’Or winner in the Round of 16 in the World Cup last summer. The report also highlights the key difference between the two players: whilst Ronaldo would celebrate victories and titles with Real Madrid in front of the fans, Godin was often forced to return to the locker room defeated or worse, to collect a silver medal, like in the 2014 final of the Champions League.

For eight consecutive seasons both players applied their trade in Madrid, with it being no coincidence that this same time period was also the best years in recent history of both clubs.

From the Madrid derby to the most bitter derby in Italy, the Derby d’Italia, both players are sure to rise to the occasion.
