Inter legend Giuseppe ‘Beppe’ Bergomi has spoken very fondly of former Nerazzurri teammate Karl-Heinz Rummenigge as part of an event at the Trento Sports Festival dedicated to the German.

“Rummenigge has remained in the hearts of the fans despite having spent only three years playing for the Nerazzurri because, in addition to his qualities as a player, he was greatly appreciated on a human level. He arrived, having won many titles elsewhere, with a disarming simplicity and this meant that all the fans loved him,” Bergomi remarked.

Bergomi then recalled when he had to mark Rummenigge during the 1982 World Cup final when he was just 18 years old.

“Enzo Bearzot told me on the day of the match that I would be marking him. Whilst it is true that I did play a great game, it is also true that Kalle was not at 100% as he had some problems, despite having dragged Germany through the semi-final against France.”
