Corinthians Sporting Director Confirms Lack Of Funds Prevented Club From Resigning Gabigol From Inter

Inter striker Gabriel ‘Gabigol’ Barbosa didn’t move to Brazilian side Corinthians purely due to their economic issues, according to Italian media outlet FcInterNews.

Corinthians sporting director Duílio Monteiro Alves discussed the club’s difficulties in the transfer market.

“The problem was money. The evaluations made by the other clubs and the duration of the contracts were not adequate and we realized that it was not possible. There was a lack of money.”

The coach of the Brazilian side Fábio Carille echoed his sporting director’s comments.

“Almost 90 percent of the purchases are evaluated by me. Andrés Sánchez [the club President] tried to sign Gabigol, Rodriguinho and Roger Guedes, but we couldn’t get them.”

The 23-year-old Brazilian striker has revitalized his career since returning to his native country, scoring 23 goals and providing 5 assists for Flamengo in 28 appearances so far this season.

Gabigol scored once against Corinthians earlier this season in a game that finished 1-1.
