Antonio Conte has continued to insist that he is well aware that his Inter side are only at the beginning of their journey and still have a long way to go before reaching where they want to be.

“We are at the beginning of a journey, we are trying to create the foundations to build something important from. We want an Inter that lasts over time, not one that is based on nothing. We must work and be patient. Rome was not built in a day,” he said at the Trento Sports Festival, as quoted in today’s paper edition of Milan newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.

“We, for many years, have not been on of the top teams but it is inevitable that there is the desire to be important once more but we know that there is a path that must be respected and we have only begun to follow it. We have to work beyond the fact we lost to Juventus and that the game has shown us some things.”

Another packed fixture scheduled awaits and Conte was asked how he feeling ahead of it after a few of his players sustained injuries during the international break.

“Evaluating now how we will start again is difficult. We have to work all week and see what the injury situation is like. Romelu Lukaku is now well and he is important to us but it is necessary to have everyone at their best.”

He concluded: “Some have got in shape a little sooner than others, who are still behind. The important thing is that everyone wants to get themselves in the best condition.”
