Former Inter striker Alessandro Altobelli has shared his views on the ongoing debate relating to the future of San Siro with Inter and AC Milan both planning on vacating the stadium for a new stadium in the coming years.

“I am all for modern things. San Siro is an old stadium, Inter and Milan want a new stadium, let them do it, but they cannot touch San Siro. By knocking down the stadium, they would bring people down with it,” Altobelli said in an interview with radio station TMW Radio.

“How could they tear La Scala down? History cannot be touched. I agree that the Meazza can be renovated. We must put it back in its place, that’s for sure, but I don’t see the disaster that others see.”

He was then asked for his thoughts on the progress Inter have made in such a short time under the tutelage of Antonio Conte.

“Juve is ahead as a project, as shown by the titles that they have won. Inter had Icardi, Perisic, Nainggolan, but we know that we had to give up this project with them. Now another serious one was born, which I think needs more time.

“Antonio Conte is here whilst Oriali is back too. The gap has shortened. Inter have some cards that they can play and they are certainly the rival of Juventus and Napoli.”
