In an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport, Marco Bestetti, the president of the 7th municipality of Milan, has spoken on residents fears relating to Inter and AC Milan’s proposals to build a new stadium in place of San Siro.

“The people of the neighbourhood are worried. Here they fear the closeness of the stadium to the houses, the volumes of cement, the farewell to the Meazza. We believe that a third party assessment is needed on the project and a real referendum would also be needed,” Bestetti said.

The redevelopment would not concern public housing, which would remain in today’s disastrous conditions. Those who go to the stadium have never seen these roads where the percentage of immigrants is close to 50% and at least a thousand popular apartments are occupied.”

He concluded: “I do not think a new stadium will improve these streets of San Siro, nobody who goes to the games sees thesese streets unless they are lost.”
