Milan city mayor Giuseppe ‘Beppe’ Sala has spoken on the other element of Inter and AC Milan’s proposals to build a new stadium accompanied by a large surrounding area that will feature hotels and restaurants among other things.
“We are entrusting the teams with a project, which is not just that of a new stadium, but a project that involves renovating the neighbourhood, something that will take years,” he told Italian broadcaster Sport Mediaset at an event at the Triennale, a design and art museum in Milan’s Sempione Park.
He concluded: “The problem is now to find out how there can be a guarantee for this path to not be interrupted and find a formula that offers guarantees otherwise it would be a disaster for those who live there.”
Two plans remain in the running to win the right to build the new stadium, that will replace the historic San Siro stadium in the years to come.
