Inter have confirmed that attacker Alexis Sanchez underwent surgery today on his ankle injury which he sustained during the international break.

The Chilean sustained the injury during Chile’s 0-0 international friendly with fellow South American side Colombia and Inter medical staff conducted some tests on him yesterday to determine the extent of his injury.

They decided the best course of action would be for him to visit professor Ramon Cugat in Barcelona, Spain, who would take a closer look and decide whether or not surgery would be required.

Cugat decided it would be necessary and conducted the surgery earlier on today with the club confirming it went exactly as planned but did not give a timeline for the 30-year-old’s return.
