Alexis Sanchez will be out until around Christmas time if he is to be operated on according to a report from Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia.

The Chilean international sustained an ankle injury during Chile’s goalless international friendly draw with Colombia during the international break and Inter’s medical staff conducted tests on him yesterday and came to the conclusion it would be best for him to visit a specialist.

Sanchez is expected to meet professor Ramon Cugat in Barcelona today and the report states that the most likely outcome from this meeting is that 30-year-old Sanchez, who joined in the Summer on loan from Manchester United, will have to go under the knife.

The report goes on to state that as a result of Sanchez’s injury, Carmine Nunziata, the manager of the Italy under 17 national team is unlikely to call upon Sebastiano Esposito for the under 17 World Cup due to the fact Inter will need him to provide cover in Sanchez’s absence.
