Alexis Sanchez is aiming to return from injury for Inter’s first game of 2020 against Napoli on January 5 according to a report in today’s paper edition of Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Chilean sustained an injury to his ankle whilst on international duty this past week and underwent surgery yesterday in Barcelona, having met with specialist, professor Ramon Cugat, who decided an operation was the best course of action for the 30-year-old, who joined Inter on loan from Premier League club Manchester United in the Summer transfer window.

Gazzetta’s report highlights that this is the second time Cugat has operated on Sanchez’s ankle and the player will no doubt be hopeful for as swift a return as last time as he made it back onto the pitch in 76 days.

The report states that all going well and in the best case scenario, Sanchez will miss 14 of Inter’s matches across all competitions as he recovers.
