In an interview in today’s paper edition of Tuttosport, Milan city mayor Giuseppe ‘Beppe’ Sala has further discussed Inter and AC Milan’s proposals to build a new stadium that will replace San Siro.
“I must reiterate that if the clubs were to find a formula for not tearing down the San Siro stadium this would be extremely important,” he explained to the Turin news outlet.
“The football clubs are no longer run by owners who do it out of passion but rather they are businesses, and therefore one or both of them could be sold before the end of the work so we must then think about what guarantee we could have.”
Next he shared his desire to see the stadium remain in the San Siro district due to the good transport links and shared his hopes for all the additional things the clubs will build.
“It would be important for the stadium to remain at San Siro, because it is equipped with such mobility infrastructures that it can be reached by means of transport and therefore fewer cars are used. Then I take it for granted that these new buildings that will be built must have an extraordinary ecology, cannot pollute and must have adequate systems.”
He concluded: “The real point is how much will it cost and what is there to constitute. The stadium itself does not return the investment to the teams that need something else and this is the political debate we are facing.”
