In an interview with sports streaming service DAZN, Inter winger Matteo Politano has spoken on how the season has went so far for the Nerazzurri.

“The season has started well, there is a new coach and a new system. At first there was some settling in needing done, but it is going well and the results are on our side, so we must continue on this path,” he started.

“It will be a special match for me on Sunday against Sassuolo. I spent three beautiful years they and they gave me my first chance in Serie A and in Europe. We experienced so many beautiful emotions together so I will always be thankful to Sassuolo.”

He was then asked about Alexis Sanchez’s injury and whether it is something he can take advantage of.

“I feel sorry for him. When you lose an important player for a couple of months, it can have an impact. Fortunately we have good Primavera boys who can step in, we are calm. Can it be an opportunity for me? I always have to think about playing for my place in the team and doing good.

“Conte is good at making everyone feel important and at the same level, it depends on us whether we play or not. With him I have a good relationship, he tells you how it is. We all have a good relationship with him and we must continue to build more and more.”

He then spoke on his performances this season.

“I have not yet scored and it is beginning to weigh on me. I am happy with the way I am performing and the space I am carving out for myself though. For a striker scoring goals is important but for now I have just been unlucky.”

In conclusion he was asked about comparisons that have been made between him and legendary Dutch winger Arjen Robben.

“I always liked him. He is much stronger than I am, but he is a role model. Now that Robben has retired, I am seeing a player like Franck Ribery as an idol, he’s a great player to admire.”
