Inter coach Antonio Conte is worried about the squad depth in midfield, despite the injury to 24-year-old Stefano Sensi not keeping him out for a long time, according to today’s paper edition of the Rome based newspaper Corriere dello Sport.

The report details how the 50-year-old Italian coach is worried due to the backup players, Matias Vecino and Roberto Gagliardini, not reaching an adequate level when compared to Nicolo Barella, Marcelo Brozovic and Stefano Sensi.

Therefore, the Nerazzurri may look to acquire Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic, even on loan if the Red Devils renew his contract for an extra year. Whilst their first choice is Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic, the difficulty in acquiring the 31-year-old Croatian may lead them to turn towards the 31-year-old Serbian instead.

If Manchester United sign Rakitic in January, then the Nerazzurri can make a permanent deal for Matic, only requiring a small amount of compensation due to his imminent contract expiry.
