Inter are hoping to sign Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic in January, whose relationship with his club are at an all-time low, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Rome based newspaper Corriere dello Sport.

The report details how Matic may leave in January, despite the fact that his contract would expire only six months later, due to the poor relationship. However, the Red Devils have a clause in his contract that could see his deal extended for another year, regardless of the player’s wishes.

On the other hand, if coach Ole Gunnar Solskjær manages to acquire the unsettled Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic, he may be happy to let the 31-year-old Serbian leave in January for a small compensation fee.

Inter’s hopes to sign the player all depend on their performances in both the Champions League and the Coppa Italia, the report highlights, suggesting that poor performances in either competition may force the club to change their plans.
