Inter assistant coach Cristian Stellini spoke to Italian broadcaster DAZN following the Nerazzurri’s 4-3 thriller against Sassuolo earlier today.
Firstly, Stellini explained why coach Antonio Conte wasn’t giving interviews following the game.
“He’s in a bit of pain, he already had a bit of a fever before the game. He lives the game intensely, gives everything and was tried and tired. His intestinal problems keep him away from the interviews.”
He then described the work the squad still needs to do.
“It’s never easy to get back on track after the international breaks, with players coming in late from their national teams there are always difficulties. Today, after 70 good minutes where we dominated, we had difficulties, there was a blackout that will have to be analysed. We’ve made a good start, but we still have to work.”
The Nerazzurri assistant coach then described what happened in the last ten minutes of the game.
“The energy ran out, Sassuolo increased their pace and we hadn’t had the chance to bring the ball forward. We lost two balls that cost us two counterattacks where we were exposed. For Sassuolo there were two easy goals. We have to work on these aspects to eliminate this crazy Inter.”
Finally, Stellini discussed the next steps for the squad.
“There are both mental and physical declines, but after the international breaks having so much energy is not easy. We have to be better at taking on the end of matches like these, matches that we have dominated for 75 minutes and take home the points more easily.”
