Former Inter midfielder Dejan Stankovic spoke to Italian broadcaster DAZN in the aftermath of the Nerazzurri’s 4-3 victory over Sassuolo today in the Serie A.
“A demonstration of physical strength, technique and a great conclusion. Lukaku’s first goal is the key moment of the match. We’ve already seen the relationship between him and Conte. It’s a great relationship between the two, I also asked the coach that question and he told me that Lukaku is a boy who wants to grow, who works hard every day to achieve the goals.”
The 41-year-old Serbian then elaborated further on the partnership between Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez.
“You can’t ask more of the two forwards, especially Lautaro who I liked a little bit more, in the second half he held up the ball, did two quick movements in the middle of the field, threw himself towards the goal, if they play like that together, then congratulations to Mr. Conte.”
“Lukaku left the penalty to Lautaro because he puts the team and the group first. In the first half Lukaku scored it, then Lautaro in my opinion knew that he would take it, it’s good for his morale and that of the duo. It’s a good thing.”
He also spoke about coach Antonio Conte’s passion.
“Conte is someone who lives with the team from the first minute to the 90th. We have seen him here from the edge of the field, he lives the game. In my opinion, having scored these goals at the end after a game like this will go sideways.”
Finally, Stankovic touched on the importance of the victory for Inter.
“Lukaku said that today’s victory was important, and I agree with him. After two quite heavy defeats in which they had wasted a lot of energy, some injuries have also appeared, to gain three points and shorten the gap with Juve to minus two points is very important. Let’s see if it continues.”
