Player Ratings Sassuolo 3 – 4 Inter: Nerazzurri Survive Late Sassuolo Onslaught

There were plenty of positives for Conte in the first half and even until the 70th minute when Lautaro put Inter 4-1 ahead.

Finally Inter were breaking the winless streak against Sassuolo which stretches as far back as 2016 and they were going to do it comfortably. Then Antonio Conte got the full Pazza Inter experience that left him with flu and no voice at full time.

Samir Handanovic – 5: Didn’t look comfortable with the sun in his eyes. Faultless on all the goals but we conceded 3 goals from 4 shots on target. No time to relax now.

Milan Skriniar – 5.5: Playing on the right side of defense and probably his best position in Conte’s back three. Soaked up the pressure towards the end. Still not at his peak.

Stefan de Vrij –  6: Had a highway to Lukaku in the first half. Tried to make them pay and it finally did towards the end. We struggled towards the end but he did well.

Alessandro Bastoni – 5: A lot of the times the ball finds him and he gives it away under minimal pressure inviting trouble for Inter. Defending was pretty good for a youngster.

Antonio Candreva – 6.5: Always gets in the right position but not sure if he really can make a decisive tackle. Inter’s only serviceable right footed wingback at the moment.

Nicolo Barella –  6: Involved in everything in the first half. Won tonnes of fouls throughout. Still lacking that creativity that Sensi brings. Not in tune with Gagliardini yet.

Marcelo Brozovic – 5.5: Outnumbered in the first half defensively. But such is the fortitude that he finds himself doing well. The second half was a disaster for him. Missing Sensi.

Roberto Gagliardini – 6: The international break seems to have added a yard of pace. Always looked good going forward. Always made the crucial pass before “the” pass.

Cristiano Biraghi –  6: Cristiano was invisible in the first half. Gave the ball away that led to Berardi equalizing. Good second half but he should be heading on target.

Lautaro Martinez – 7.5: Almost everything he touches turns to a chance. Could have had a hat trick in the first half alone. Unstoppable. That volley wont haunt him. El Toro.

Romelu Lukaku – 7: Used his physicality and all the chances he got very well. Involved a lot in the first half build up play. Hold up play suffered when Lautaro was subbed.

Matteo Politano – 4.5: Matteo came back to his old hunting ground with a zero impact performance. There were wide open spaces that he should have exploited but didn’t.

Valentino Lazaro – 3.5: Valentino had a day to forget. His performance today was shocking. He’s been training with Conte for 4 months, still cant figure out his position.

Matias Vecino – N/A: Thrown on as Lukaku had started limping. Barely had time to do anything but it was more a sign of desperation from Conte than anything else.

Antonio Conte – 5.5: The game plan worked  till he didn’t have to turn to his bench. Tried to rest Candreva, Lautaro and co but it backfired. Thankfully Inter still got 3 points.

Piero Giacomelli –  5: Penalties were right but he missed one more on Lautaro. Few soft free kicks given either side but still managed to keep control of the game.

Inter – 5.5: Remember when Conte said, no Pazza Inter anymore. Good times. Inter had to dig deep to get the first win against Sassuolo since 2016. Big 3 points.
