Inter CEO Beppe Marotta told Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia moments ago that it is now time for the Nerazzurri to take a final leap of quality by performing consistently in the Champions League.

“We say that our approach is always the same but then a lot also depends on our opponents. They are a tough team, they have great players and some really interesting young ones too. In this aspect we have an advantage but in the end the final verdict is always delivered on the pitch.”

“They have had a winning strategy for years, with a management that is very well prepared as well as being a rich club. Every season they are marvelous in the Bundesliga and in Europe.”

“Thanks to the work that Conte does the team improves from week to week. We still need to find continuity, at times we find ourselves in difficulty, but the squad puts our minds at ease when looking at the future.”

“We have 5 Italian players on the bench, we are imposing a philosophy where we evaluate Italian youngsters for the future. The present is then made up of small steps, in the league we are undertaking our journey with a very clear idea.”

“Our 7 wins in the league are a prestigious result even in terms of the performances behind them. The Champions League is an important tournament, where all teams can put you in difficulty. We have to look at our participation in the tournament as being a further sign of growth. We play to win every match but we have opponents that are ahead of us.”

In conclusion Marotta praised Icardi’s success at Paris Saint-Germain.

“We never had any doubts about his quality. We undertook a policy of change, which does not mean that we underestimate him but only that we made a different strategic choice.”

“He is still under contract with us, we look at him closely although having a great attack who play at a very high level.”
