Flamengo are fearful that they could lose out to a top European club as they seek to sign striker Gabriel ‘Gabigol’ Barbosa on a permanent transfer from Inter according to a report from Brazilian broadcaster Fox Sports.

Flamengo already have a deal in place with Inter which would see him join in a €20 million deal but Gabigol’s fine form whilst on loan at the Mengao has not went unnoticed.

With 35 goals in 48 appearances across all competitions, several European clubs have drawn links to the 23-year-old and Flamengo fear that despite the player showing a willingness to remain, his head could be turned by a European club where he could try to prove himself again after struggling with both Inter and out on loan at Benfica.

To date, the only proposals to have arrived from European teams come from mid-table teams with the most recent one coming from Premier League club Crystal Palace.
