Architect Claims Inter & AC Milan’s San Siro Stadium Can Be Renovated

Jacopo Mascheroni, the owner of Milanese architectural firm JMA has confirmed that San Siro could be renovated.

“It has the perfect DNA to be one of the best stadiums in the world. Renovation would cost between €200-250 million and would take three years to do. The fact that the Meazza is built with three separate tiers helps everything,” he said in an interview with Milanese news outlet Corriere della Sera in today’s print edition.

Mascheroni then went on to confirm that the clubs would not have to leave San Siro for several years to allow the work to take place.

“A few sectors at a time could be closed to carry out the work in complete safety, which would reduce the capacity to 45,000.”

It now remains to be seen what will happen to San Siro, which opened back in 1926. The two clubs wished to demolish it entirely as part of their new stadium project but Mascheroni’s judgement could mean they may need to revise their plans to incorporate San Siro.
