Tonight’s match at home to Inter will allow Brescia striker Mario Balotelli to reunite with several people from his past, a report in today’s paper edition of Gazzetta dello Sport highlights.

“Mario will meet friends and familiar faces tonight: after all he too is also a hero of the Triplete side just like Inter vice president Zanetti. He will also see Antonio Conte, with whom the relationship in the national team never took off despite the excellent premises,” the report begins.

“Conte had summoned Balotelli for the first official qualifying event for the 2016 European Championship against Croatia: it was the first call after the disaster of the World Cup in Brazil and it seemed a great esteem for the then Liverpool striker.

“After a few days Balotelli left Coverciano due to a muscle problem and under the management Conte never came back  – a little because of his inconsistent performances and partly because Conte had created a club like atmosphere, which relied on a very united locker room that had to work in the same direction, who put the group above all else.”

Balotelli joined Brescia on a free transfer in the Summer and has scored one goal in four appearances for them.
