In an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, Inter manager Antonio Conte reflected on Inter’s 2-1 victory away to Brescia.

“In my opinion it becomes difficult to talk about the game. It is the fourth in nine days where they always play the same. The boys put in an incredible effort, something important and extraordinary was done today. There is little to say to the boys but let’s thank them for the spirit put in,” he started.

“Now let’s get ready for Bologna, then we have Dortmund and Verona which will end our run of seven games in 20 days.”

He was then asked what he wants his players to take away from matches like this.

“[I want them to take away] That certain matches must be won with suffering. I challenge anyone, to play four games in 9 days and come to Brescia to win. It’s inevitable that I would like to have more time to prepare for the matches.

“Brescia changed things up and played with a back five. Congratulations to them for their performance, Corini is doing well with them and I wish him the best because he is a very good guy.”

He was then asked if CEO Giuseppe ‘Beppe’ Marotta’s recent comments have reassured him at all.

“It is not a matter of calming down or being reassured. It is necessary to treasure the situations that the path presents to you. I have spent four months at Inter and I am starting to understand things that in June I did not know. The situation is clear to me, we need to improve by avoiding certain situations.

“When you come into a new situation, how do you know what the level of the team and everything is at? You have to experience it for yourself. We still have to improve on some things and we must not ever close our eyes and think that everything is ok.

“We have to be honest and understand that we need to improve. These sort of victories are very painful, with us going at full speed. It is not a walk but thanks must go out to this group of players who are performing beyond expectations.”

In conclusion he spoke on strike force Lautaro Martinez and Romelu Lukaku, both of whom scored in the match.

“They have done very well, they are fine. They can still improve, they work a lot for the team. It is important to have an alternative, we found it in Esposito who is a good prospect.

“Lautaro and Lukaku have played all the games, when you play four games in nine days you risk someone getting hurt then it becomes problematic. Anyone would be worried about that as a coach. The risk of an injury is just around the corner, we can’t afford it, but it’s part of the journey.”
