Attilio Fontana, the president of the Lombardy region, has shared his delight at the conditional declaration of public interest given by the city council for Inter and AC Milan’s new stadium project.

The green light was given to the clubs yesterday, although that comes with 16 conditions attached to it which will result in the clubs having to sit back down at the drawing board and adapt the two plans in the running accordingly.

The two clubs presented the projects put together by Cmr Sportium-Davide Manica and Populous last month for a new state of-the-art stadium, that also involves the surrounding area being renovated. It does however remain to be seen what will happen with San Siro.

“It is positive that there has been a yes given to do the new stadium, but all the details belong to the municipal administration,” he is quoted as saying by Italian news agency ANSA.
