Inter CEO Marotta: “Winning Scudetto Isn’t Our Goal This Year, We’ve Started A Gradual Process”

Inter chief executive Giuseppe ‘Beppe’ Marotta has played down the idea that Inter are looking to win the Scudetto this season.

“It was a deserved victory against Brescia. The team has great character and personality and reflect the characteristics of manager Antonio Conte. They are a team who succeed, even in difficulty and bring important results home,” he started an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia.

“We are always trying to improve. This is our goal. The results are proving what we are doing is right and we’re being rewarded for the work started in Lugano in July.

“Winning the Scudetto is not our goal this year. Our goal is to bring Inter back as high as possible but it is a gradual process. This year is a starting point, in which there are things that can be improved and we will do that but everything has to happen quietly without pressure.”

He was then asked about Inter’s January transfer window targets.

“The January window is poor, you don’t come across many great opportunities. I don’t know what the market can offer. We must see what comes up. The midfield department must be reinforced.”

In conclusion he was asked about Inter’s performances in the Champions League.

“Barça, Dortmund and Slavia Prague are all tough teams that do not give away anything. There are still several games to be faced which we must face with the same spirit which we faced Borussia Dortmund at San Siro with.”
