Speaking at an event today, Milan city mayor Giuseppe ‘Beppe’ Sala has spoken further on Inter and AC Milan’s proposed new stadium.
“I try to be as clear as I have ever been. If the teams want to do the new stadium, let’s do it tomorrow morning. Nobody wants to stop it, but if they want to do hotels, offices and shopping centres, they need to be discussed and I will not give in to any pressure,” he is quoted as saying by Calcio e Finanza.
“Therefore, given that this would also be done on our own land, the project must be compatible with the needs of the city and the neighbourhood.
“We do not wish to deceive people by talking about the stadium, there is still things needing to be done. It is needless to apply pressure or rush things, because there are precise rules to be respected.
He concluded: “Since I have been mayor, we have not authorised other commercial spaces because we are looking for a different balance on commercial spaces in order to protect small shops.”
