In an interview which appeared today’s print edition of Gazzetta dello Sport, legendary Italian manager Arrigo Sacchi has reflected on Inter’s Jekyll and Hyde performance in their 3-2 loss to Borussia Dortmund.
“Inter lost in Dortmund after a great start to the game as Inter pressed furiously and countered quickly. It was a good first half by Inter, played with courage and good ideas,” he began.
“Unfortunately the second half started with the Nerazzurri being too prudent, with too many men in defence which let Borussia Dortmund take charge of the game. Dortmund then regained confidence and creativty, so much so that they went on to win 3-2.
“I don’t know if it came down to Inter being tired or not having a consolidated winning mentality, only Antonio Conte can say what it was.
“As great a manager, he knows very well that commanding the game in the Champions League is synonymous with success. The match can however serve as an encouragement.”
