Diego Godin could find himself sitting on the bench in the coming weeks if his struggles continue according to a report from Gazzetta dello Sport.
Upon joining on a free transfer this Summer following his release from Atletico Madrid, the Uruguayan central defender had some issues when it came to getting to grips with Antonio Conte’s tactics, which have led him to play in a three man defence for the first time in his career.
However, now his performances in general are poor and he has found himself in difficulty several times over Inter’s recent matches, most recently in Tuesday’s loss to Borussia Dortmund, which saw him make an error which led to Dortmund scoring their second goal.
Godin, so far anyway, has been unable to replicate the success of another central defender who joined on a free in Stefan de Vrij with the Dutchman becoming a point of reference in the defence.
The report goes on to state that Danilo D’Ambrosio, who is on the verge of a return from injury, could soon take Godin’s place in the team if his performances do not get better.
