Inter defender Alessandro Bastoni spoke to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset last night following the Nerazzurri’s tough 2-1 victory over Hellas Verona yesterday.

“It was fundamental for us to take home these three points, we started off with a goal deficit, but we didn’t go down and we found the win.”

The 20-year-old Italian defender made his six appearance for the Nerazzurri in yesterday’s victory, proving himself important for coach Antonio Conte as he struggles to efficiently rotate his squad and keep players fit and healthy.

Bastoni’s emergence has allowed Conte to rotate the defensive trio regularly, giving the 20-year-old much more play time than he initially expected at the start of this season.

His performances have been steadily increasing as he develops more confidence and gains more experience playing at the highest level. The Nerazzurri’s victory last night has put them top of the league table, two points ahead of rivals Juventus.

However, if the Bianconeri beat AC Milan tonight then they will return to the top of the table, again being one point ahead of the Nerazzurri.
