Due to the emergence of Inter midfielder Marcelo Brozovic’s incredible ability to play as a regista, teams are marking him more tightly, leaving the play making role more open to defender Stefan de Vrij, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Milano based newspaper Corriere della Sera.

The report details how 22-year-old Italian Nicolò Barella was the man of the match in yesterday’s 2-1 victory over Hellas Verona, with his late wonder strike gifting the Nerazzurri a vital three points.

However, more attention should be paid to 27-year-old Dutch defender De Vrij, who has stepped up to the plate following the increased attention paid to Brozovic.

Because of Brozovic’s strong start to the season, even weaker teams are paying more attention to the 26-year-old Croatian, limiting his ability to dictate the game for Inter, the report continues.

Despite this, De Vrij has shown his ability to be a strong play maker as well, providing four assists so far this season for the Nerazzurri.

Furthermore, the report adds, the attacking partnership of Lautaro Martinez and Romelu Lukaku continues to impress, with the 26-year-old Belgian striker showing his strength in his impressive hold-up play and instinctive partnership with the 22-year-old Argentinian striker.

Whilst neither striker scored yesterday, they looked deadly and the strong partnership seems to be growing and growing.
