It is very unlikely that Inter will make a move for Dries Mertens in the upcoming January transfer window according to a report in today’s paper edition of Il Roma.

Mertens contract with Napoli is due to expire at the end of the current season and he is already considering his future at the club.

Inter have shown an interest in signing him but only wish to do so when he will become a free agent in the Summer. Inter chief executive Giuseppe ‘Beppe’ Marotta views the Belgian as a player who could provide some quality off of the bench from next season.

The reason it is unlikely that Inter will make a move for the 32-year-old in January is because Napoli president and owner Aurelio De Laurentiis wants at least €20 million to part ways with him.

Mertens has made 15 appearances across all competitions this season in which he has scored seven goals and provided two assists.
