Matthijs de Ligt has spoken on the relationship which he has formed with Inter defender and national team teammate Stefan de Vrij, first speaking on the competition between them to start for the Netherlands at centre back.

“It is a great fight but with the Dutch national team I see him more as a friend. If Stefan plays, I support him and if I play, he will support me,” he explained in an interview with Dutch news outlet Nos Voetbal.

The 20-year-old, who joined Juventus this past Summer from Ajax in a €75 million deal, then spoke on how it feels to be so close by to de Vrij whilst in Italy too.

“I am regularly with him. We recently ate together after facing each other in a match. It is only an hour’s drive from Turin to Milan and I really like having someone close by to speak Dutch with.”
