Inter have done more than make just a simple enquiry with regards to the availability of Dries Mertens according to a report in today’s paper edition of Corriere dello Sport.

The Nerazzurri club have in fact already held talks with his representatives over the possibility of him joining the club. Whilst it seems impossible for him to join in January, talks have taken place over a potential Summer move.

The Belgian international’s deal with the Partenopei is due to expire at the end of the season meaning Inter could therefore pick him up for absolutely nothing.

As per the report, the 32-year-old would prefer a move to Inter over some of the other options which have presented themselves, such as a move to the Chinese Super League.

Mertens, who has played for Napoli since 2013, has made 15 appearances across all competitions this season. In 1067 minutes, he has scored seven goals and tallied two assists.
