Javier Zanetti has thanked his former teammates and their family for supporting him during his career as part of a speech at an event held at the Salón de la fama del fútbol, a football museum in Mexico.
“It is a privilege and an honour to have this recognition for my career, which I have dedicated much of my life to and which I would not have had without the great effort of my teammates and the support of my wife Paula and my children,” he began.
“Finally I say that one of the great values of my life is friendship and today my old friends still accompany me, including those who saw me start at the age of 17.”
Zanetti then revealed an anecdote from his career which concerned the possibility of a transfer away from Inter.
“I have been in Italy for 25 years and I have found my place in the world. This is why I decided to go through my whole career with Inter and I am happy with this choice. I had the chance to go to Real Madrid but Inter is my life.”
