Napoli president and owner Aurelio De Laurentiis has offered Dries Mertens a new contract according to a report in today’s paper edition of Corriere dello Sport.

The Belgian attacker’s deal with the Azzurri club is due to expire at the end of the season and De Laurentiis is well aware that from January other clubs can reach a pre-contract agreement with him.

De Laurentiis has offered Mertens the same salary of €4 million as part of his new contract proposal but it is understood that Mertens is looking for more like €5 million instead.

Mertens is understood to have interest in his services from Inter as well as several clubs from both the Premier League and the Chinese Super League.

The 32-year-old, who has been with the Stadio San Paolo side since 2013, has made 15 appearances across all competitions this season. In 1067 minutes on the park, he has scored seven goals and tallied two assists.
