Roma captain Alessandro Florenzi, who has been linked with a January move to Inter, discussed his situation with the Giallorossi and his return to the Italian national team in an interview with Italian broadcaster SportMediaset today.

“I didn’t play to change the coach’s mind, but rather for myself. I’m just thinking of playing, I want to give my contribution to Roma. I hope that in the short term I will be able to put the coach, who is now making other choices that I respect, in a position where his selection choices are more difficult.

“If I am to be the captain, I have to set an example: as in previous years, I put Roma ahead of me. We all have to be quiet and work, because if the captain does it everyone does it accordingly.”

Florenzi has struggled for playing time under coach Paulo Fonseca this season, only playing the full 90 minutes of a game once this season, in the Giallorossi’s 2-0 loss to Atalanta in September.
