Barcelona are interested in Inter defender Milan Skriniar as a potential replacement for the aging Gerard Pique, according to a report from Spanish media outlet Diario Gol.

The report details how the Blaugrana are impressed with the performances of the Nerazzurri, with internal discussions surrounding the 24-year-old Slovak already taking place. The club already believe that he would be an excellent reinforcement for their defence and appreciate his €60 million value.

Furthermore, club stars such as Lionel Messi and Gerard Pique have already given the green light to their coach, Ernesto Valverde, for the purchase of the former Sampdoria defender, but only under the assumption that he will only become a regular in the starting eleven once Pique’s performances drop.

The only issue, the report suggests, is the wishes of the defender himself. Skriniar reportedly prefers Real Madrid, who are also interested in him, and therefore a fight between the two Spanish clubs is likely to take place for his signature.
