Inter players Matias Vecino and Diego Godin, currently with the Uruguay national team, spoke to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset today, discussing their work with Uruguay and the Nerazzurri.

Vecino touched on the Copa America, his physical condition and Inter’s work in the league so far this season.

“Unfortunately I started pre-season late due to an injury at the Copa America. Now I feel better, even physically. I think I will continue to find space. It will depend on me, on improving my performance and on my performance to find space. This year the mentality has changed.

“We are working well, we have continuity in terms of results, especially in the league. Overtake Juve? I don’t know, we’ll see at the end of the season. The fact is that there is another team that doesn’t lose points, but we have to stay there. There’s confidence.”

Godin then spoke about Inter’s competition for the league title, Juventus, as well as the Champions League.

“Juve have been winning title after title with tremendous ease for years. This shows the superiority of the Bianconeri players. We are competing, we are head to head. But let’s not lie to each other, it’s a long way off. As Inter we have to play every game like it’s a final. Juventus have a wider range of players to play with and win games. If they can’t make it as a team, then that’s where the individual’s play comes in.

“We at Inter depend on the team, everything has to work. We hope to continue like this and to win. In the Champions League it’s difficult because we have two strong opponents ahead of us and two very complicated games. But it’s up to us. If we win, we progress.

“First, we see what happens in Prague, against a strong team, which surprised us in the group and competes well. They will be a tough rival. If we win against them, we’ll play what is basically a final in the San Siro against Barcelona.

“There are differences between the three man defence and the four man defence. I’ve been playing with the four man defence all my life, from Uruguay to Atletico Madrid. With the three man defence at Inter there’s more room, we have to be more aggressive. I often stop behind the side because that’s what the coach wants. They’re different systems.

“Since I arrived at Inter, I’ve been trying to improve, to adapt to the coach’s requests. The important thing is that the team is doing well, we’re having a good year. We’re in good shape in Serie A, in the Champions League it’s harder but it’s up to us.”
