Barcelona Director of Football Eric Abidal spoke about Inter target Ivan Rakitic in an interview in today’s paper edition of the Catalan newspaper Sport.

“The coach had already told the player at the beginning of the season that it would be different and that he would play less. I talked to Ivan and told him that I understood that it was a complicated situation because I too went from always playing to playing less. I’ll always be here to help him.”

The 40-year-old Frenchman then touched on the Blaugrana’s decision behind the decision to lower the amount of play time given to the Croatian midfielder.

“There’s a sporting decision he needs to understand. As a club, if you want to sell a player, you do so. We’ll see if everything is resolved.”

Inter are incredibly keen to sign the 31-year-old Croatian midfielder, with coach Antonio Conte specifically identifying him as a primary transfer target.
