Inter defender Diego Godin’s performance with the Uruguayan national team a few days ago in the friendly against Hungary shows he still needs time to adapt to coach Antonio Conte’s system, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Turin based newspaper Tuttosport.

The report details how the 33-year-old Uruguayan looks like a different player when playing with his national team, compared to the slightly off player he is under Conte this season. The player has struggled to adapt to playing in a three-man defence, something he’s never done before after always playing in a four-man defence throughout his whole career.

However, Godin is aware of his slight faults and is working hard to fix them, the report highlights. Both the club and the player are very happy with the deal and his powerful leadership in the dressing room will only help the Nerazzurri more and more moving forward, especially to the younger players like Alessandro Bastoni or Sebastiano Esposito.

Furthermore, Conte appreciates the player’s leadership abilities, and following the 3-2 defeat to Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League last month, recalled the player specifically for these reasons, the report adds.
