Inter are already looking at future free agents in order to strengthen the squad next summer, with Inter CEO Beppe Marotta already identifying one key name, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Turin based newspaper Tuttosport.

The report details how Inter are interested in Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen, whose contract expires with the North London club next June. The 32-year-old Belgian defender was part of the Spurs squad that reached the Champions League final last year, impressing with his strong defensive performances.

The reason that the Nerazzurri are interested in him, the report continues, is due to the unclear future of Inter defender Milan Skriniar. The player is being followed by Barcelona and Real Madrid, and an offer for him may arrive next summer. Therefore, Marotta is looking to stay prepared and ensure he is on top of the situation should Skriniar be sold next summer.

Furthermore, the report adds, Skriniar has struggled a little in Antonio Conte’s three-man defence. The 24-year-old Slovakian defender especially struggles when deployed on the left side of the back three, considering his slightly slow pace and his weak left foot.
