Torino coach Walter Mazzarri discussed former Inter player Diego Laxalt in an interview in today’s paper edition of the Milano based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, touching on their history together at Inter.

“The first time Diego worked with me was when he was a kid, it was at Inter. Now that I’ve got him back with me at Toro, I remembered that early on at Inter he had come to training as a midfielder.”

The former Napoli and Inter coach revealed that he has started to play Laxalt in a similar position, as a mezzala, due to these memories.

“I wanted to draw out that attitude of his, because he has those characteristics of running, that ability to push through for space as I like, which can be very useful even in a mezzala position.”

Laxalt technically spent three years with the Nerazzurri between 2013 to 2016, but never managed a first team appearance.
